One unfortunate but very significant chapter in the history of the Serbian people of Lika and Krajina region is WW-II.

During the WW-II, Croatia sided with Hitler's Nazi Germany and created "The Independent State of Croatia" (much of what has been repeated in 1991-95, under the tutilage of USA (Clinton) and new united Germany). (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ustashe) During that period Croatia was engaged in massive genocide of Serbian people on the territory controlled by Italian Mussolini fascists as well as Nazi Germans. Those included about 1,000 places where Serbs were systematically slaughtered, which includes Jasenovac, the second concentration camp after Auswitz by the number of people systematically killed, estimated 1.5 million Serbs and 30,000 Jews and Gypsies. Unique in the history of the world "Independent State of Croatia", had a concentration camp for Serbian children "Jastrebarsko", where 3,000 Serbian children were killed. In those Croatian "killing fields" Serbs were knifed and thrown (https://dirkdeklein.net/2016/06/16/ustase-the-fascists-that-made-the-nazis-look-like-boyscouts/) in pits and cervices: "Researchers have established that there were over 320 pits and crevices of various sizes up and down the Independent State of Croatia in which the Serbs of all ages and both sexes were thrown alive or massacred." Withe number of those killed in Jasenovac concentration camp, the number of murdered Oklobdžija's in WW-II by Croatian fascists, "Ustase" exceeds 66.

Recently a film named: "Dara from Jasenovac" was made by a Serbian refugee girl that fled Lika at age 16. There is some criticism on the artistic creation of the film, but it is based on a true story of a survivor of the camp. If you have stomach to wath it the link is in the title. The site has been attacked by organized institutional hackers trying to prevent people from seeing it. I suspect involvement of someone bigger than just Croatian hackers.

Those lists and this short synopsis perhaps explains why my last name is so rare.
