Nikola Tesla:

In my family (Oklobdžija), it seems that one generation produced great military leaders, while in the next generations they would be spiritual leaders (priests). I presume this was not uncommon to the poor regions as both military and church service were free of charge and provided home for poor children. The life and families of the Krajina region were best recorded in the book by Milan Radeka, "Lika i Gornja Krajina". One of my ancestors (on the priesthood side, Tomo Oklobdžija) baptized Nikola Tesla (great Serbian who emigrated to America and invented Alternating Current (AC) System of Generation, Transmission at great distances, and utilization of electric energy. Among other invention the most notable is Radio (by US Supreme Court Decision in 1943, he preceded Marconi. Marconi's work was not based on fundamental inventions but on commoercialization of other people's ideas such as Hertz, Maxwell, Stone and Tesla. Marconi was also well aware of Tesla's experiments with radio and has attended his lecture). (articla about ruling) Tesla also developed remote- controlled boat which he demonstrated in the pound of the New York Central Park (1898) way before the "invention of radio". He also experimented with transmission of radio waves at his Colorado Springs laboratory in the final years of the 19th century. I found out recently that we are related to Tesla family on my grandmother side. Here is Tesla family tree. Little known fact is that Tesla's are not from Smiljan.
Tesla family is from Raduč, Lika, a village about 3-5 km from us and a village where my grandmother Marija Čubrilo is from. Here is the picture of the Tesla family house site in Raduč.

Thus, we may be related to Tesla on both sides. Distance between Oklobd�ija houses and Tesla's is less than 5km (3 miles), about one hour walk:
